Charlie Carter began his career in the residential construction business in 1997 in Loudon County with the creation of Carter-Elliott, Inc. As a custom designer/builder specializing in personal service and a “Susanka” style, his company became very successful in the late 90’s.
In 2005, Charlie expanded into the Charlottesville area by joining the firms of Carter-Elliott and Redlands owned by his father, Ron Carter. As a general contractor, Redlands offers both a design/build brand and the traditional neighborhood/model home approach.
Charlie continues to expand his knowledge of the construction business by joining many other builders across the country in supporting the “green” building initiative. Charlie has become a LEED accredited professional and an advocate of sustainable design and energy efficient homes.
As a scientist and professional engineer, Charlie supports his business by continually improving the business of building quality homes for today’s market.

Ron Carter is a lifelong Virginian with degrees in engineering from Virginia Tech and masters in business from William and Mary. He has served as Director of Health Sciences Center at the University of Virginia for ten years and Assistant Vice President for Facilities at Carnegie Mellon University for six years. He is also a registered engineer in the State of Virginia.
"My engineering and business education serve me well in the building business. I realize the importance of teamwork and I focus on providing value and service for our clients. Redlands builds high quality homes with very nice finishing details. My passion for building homes goes back to my first project, a two story tree-house. The homes we build these days are somewhat more sophisticated than the tree-house. However, I did receive recognition for my project in the local newspaper."
Through the years, Ron has built homes in many fine neighborhoods in and around Charlottesville including Glenmore, Fontana, Langford Farms, Western Ridge, Westwoods, Rockbridge, Lynnwood, Dunlora, Colthurst Farms, Meriweather Hills, Lake Reynovia, Old Trail, Peacock Hills, and Forest Glen.
